Who we are
INDYPAA is a volunteer committee of young people in Alcoholics Anonymous in Indianapolis. We put on sober events and carry the message to people who figured recovery was for someone older, someone worse off, or someone else entirely.
No membership, no dues, nothing to sign. The only requirement is a desire to stop drinking, and being unsure counts.
What we mean by young
Young is defined as anyone that is young at heart and has room to grow, no matter your age.
Meetings
These are the AA meetings around Indianapolis carrying the Young People designation. All of them are open, so anyone can attend, including family and friends who want to understand what this is.

LGBTQ meetings
Indianapolis has a full week of LGBTQ-designated AA meetings. Some are open to anyone; most are closed, meaning they’re for people who think they may have a drinking problem. A few are specific to men or women, which is noted below.

The state conference
The Indiana Conference of Young People in A.A. is the statewide gathering that local young people’s committees like this one point toward. Speakers, panels, marathon meetings, and a few hundred young people from around Indiana in one hotel for a weekend.
Dates, host city, and registration are posted by the host committee at incypaa.org. Ask at a business meeting about carpools and room shares.
The committee
We're a volunteer committee of AA members. Positions are elected, terms rotate, and business meetings are open. You can walk into one without holding a position or knowing anybody.
Business meetings are open
You don't need a position or an invitation to sit in. For the next time and place, catch a committee member at a meeting or call the Intergroup hotline.
Come to an event, then come back. At the start, that's the whole of belonging here.
Coffee, greeting, setup, literature. Small jobs done consistently are what keep a committee alive.
Seats up on October 3 include Committee Chair, Co-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Bylaws, Graphics, Outreach, Web Chair, Unity Chair, and Snackypaa Chair, plus more on the night. Ask at a business meeting what the sobriety requirement is for each.
Hospitals & Institutions
H&I takes meetings into treatment centers, detoxes, hospitals, and jails, reaching people who can't get to a meeting on the outside. It's some of the most direct service in AA, and committees are usually short of volunteers.
Contributions
Every AA group is fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions. INDYPAA runs on what members put in the basket. That covers venues, coffee, literature, and getting people to events who otherwise couldn't go.
How to contribute
Contributions are passed at events and business meetings. To give between events or ask the treasurer where funds go, catch a committee member at a meeting.
